Surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) is a display technology developed by Canon and Toshiba. Surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) is high-resolution display technology aimed at competing with LCD and plasma displays. Surface-conduction electron-emitter display provides the picture quality of cathode-ray tube (CRT) in a flat-panel format with reducing power consumption to about 50 percent of the power consumption of CRT and 33 percent of the power of plasma displays of a comparable size. The SED works with an array of electron emitters and a layer of phosphor, separated by a small space from which all the air has been evacuated and having dedicated electron emitter for each pixel in the display.
